What Is A Bridal Shower?

A bridal shower is a party that is held in honor of the bride before the wedding. The party is thrown with her favorite people near and dear to her heart, who are there to “shower” the upcoming bride with gifts, love, and support as she starts a new part of her life.

Average Bridal Shower Length

Most say the sweet spot length for this party is around 2 to 3 hours. This gives everyone enough time to mingle and chat, eat and drink, play a few games, and participate in some activities, while spending some time with the soon-to-be bride.

What’s The Point?

Throwing a bridal shower gives the bride, as well as close family and friends, a chance to get together and celebrate the bride before she is swept away on her big day. It is an opportunity for friends and family to connect, share advice, play games, and create some meaningful memories. One way you can ensure lasting memories are made is by using creative and fun bridal shower ideas to keep the evening engaging for everyone involved.

Should Guests Bring Gifts?

Guests normally do bring gifts as you are meant to shower the bride, and more traditionally, friends and family would bring presents to the upcoming bride to help her start her new life.

Sometimes the couple will create a registry to give guests an idea of what to give; it contains things that the new couple may need or simply just want. Often, the registry for the bridal shower is the same as for the wedding, but it does not have to be.

Icebreaker Games For Your Bridal Shower

While the guests you invite to your bridal shower venue may be your close friends and family, not everyone will know each other. To avoid awkwardness between guests who are unfamiliar with one another, consider including a few icebreaker games to help everyone feel comfortable.

Starting the evening off with these fun bridal shower ideas for games is a great way to get everyone mingling and laughing from the very beginning of the party.

1: Two Truths And A Lie

To begin this game, start by introducing yourself to the group. Follow up your introduction with two true facts about yourself and then a lie. The rest of the party group must come together, or compete against each other, to find out which two facts are true.

If you have a very large group of people, you might want to consider splitting it up into smaller groups to ensure that everyone gets to share their facts.

2: Find The Guest Bingo

Start by handing each guest a piece of paper with different facts scattered along a bingo-style grid card.

These facts can range from non-specific and easy to more difficult.

Such as:

  • Find a guest who has shoulder-length hair
  • Find someone with the same birthday month as you

As you go around filling in your find the guest bingo card, keep in mind you may only use a person’s name once. This forces guests to branch out and talk to everyone instead of staying in a small circle of people they are comfortable and familiar with.

The first person to yell BINGO with five in a row wins the game!

3: Who Am I?

In this fun and interactive bridal shower game, guests will wear a sticky note with a word on it that they can not read. They must then go around and talk to other guests and ask yes-or-no style questions to try and figure out what they have written on their sticky note.

When playing this game, make sure there is a theme of some sort to help narrow down what kind of questions should be asked.

Theme ideas could include:

  • Bride’s favorite things
  • Words associated with weddings
  • A honeymoon destination

After one or two of these icebreaker games, guests will naturally become more comfortable with one another, reducing the need for formal introductions.

Group Activities and Games

In addition to ice breaker games, here are a few other activities and games that are sure to be a hit with your bridal shower guests!

1: Wedding Charades

Have your guests act out different wedding-related words and have them guess what is being acted out in front of them.

What You Will Need:

  • A bowl full of different wedding-related words or phrases
  • Guests with good acting skills and even better guessing abilities

How To Play:

  • Divide the group into two teams
  • Have a player from one team act out the word given on the piece of paper from the bowl
  • Players from the same team will have to try to guess which word is being acted out
  • Set a time limit for each team to guess
  • The team with the most points wins

2: Would She Rather

Who knows the bride-to-be best? This game will easily identify the friends who, at the very least, pay the most attention!

What You Will Need:

  • “Would She Rather” bridal shower cards, make sure to have enough for all the guests
  • A writing utensil for each player
  • Timer

How To Play:

  • Set a timer and have guests fill out the “Would She Rather ” card in accordance with what the bride would most likely choose
  • When the timer hits zero, pass your card to another guest to have them mark it for you
  • Have the bride read out her answers for each question one by one
  • The player with the most correct answers is the winner

3: Toilet Paper Wedding Dress

For all the creative guests, this game is perfect for you!

What You Will Need:

  • Rolls of toilet paper
  • A timer
  • A willing model from each group

What To Do:

  • Split the guests into a couple of groups and have each group pick a model
  • Set the timer and begin wrapping the model in toilet paper to try to create a makeshift toilet paper wedding dress
  • The group with the best dress in the allotted amount of time is the winning group

Considerations When Picking Bridal Shower Activities

When putting together a bridal shower, there are some things you may want to consider, such as:

  • Age group of those attending
  • Try to incorporate some small prizes for winners to keep everyone engaged and excited
  • Pick activities that take a short period of time to explain and learn
  • If you choose games that require a bit of setup, think about having them already set up with all the supplies needed to minimize the amount of running around you will have to do
  • Think about the time it takes to play a single game and the total duration of the bridal shower. Do you have enough time to play? Will the setup take too long? Is the game complicated to learn and explain?
  • Consider the amount of space the bridal shower venue will provide. Is there enough room to plan the activity you want?
