Yes, St. Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland, the way his day is celebrated today is largely shaped by Irish immigrants and their descendants in the United States. The Caribbean island of Montserrat celebrates St. Patty’s Day for 10 days. Even Moscow and Japan put on St. Patty’s Day Parades.
And St. Patrick’s adopted homeland? When the Irish saw Americanized St. Patrick’s Day celebrations on television, they jumped on the partying bandwagon. Today, Ireland celebrates its patron saint with festivals, parades, and national revelry. But the biggest and best celebrations for St. Patrick’s Day are still in the U.S.
